Bob Burcham at Middle Georgia Raceway, the track he dominated during the sixties. Here he receives the championship trophies for the race, the Morelock 200, and the season of 1968. GARHOFA's Jimmy Mosteller is the PA announcer and is handing out the trophies. To the right is Bob's right arm mechanic Hoss Jackson. Bob's wife Jean is holding one of the trophies for that day's race. She was a big fan of Bob's racing, and always was his scorekeeper at the longer races. Burcham was the winningest driver in the history of Middle Georgia Raceway. He became an early legend at the 1/2 mile banked oval when it first opened in 1965. At the time he was chauffeuring his 1958 Plymouth to numerous wins. On this day, Burcham was driving his silver Chevelle and had scored two wins for taking both 100 lappers. The first one he started on the outside pole, took the lead coming out of turn one and was able to hold off Charlie Padgett, Charlie Mincey and Don Tomberlin. The second event the field was inverted and he had to battle his way to the front, edging out Mincey, LeeRoy Yarbrough and Padgett. The quiet Burcham noted, "The car and I were able to establish a good rapport today." Indeed they had.
